Engineering Your Home

Here in Walton County, the building department is going to require that you submit plans that are certified by either a licensed Architect OR a licensed Engineer.  I personally prefer the latter.

The Engineer I bet sometimes wonders why people would negotiate in an attempt to get a lower rate.  Overall, engineering services in Walton County are reasonably priced, and very competitive compared to full on custom plans by an architect approved in a community.

The engineer is responsible to take the wonderful artwork that has been produced for you and turn it into something that can actually be built.  They will structure the proper foundation, load point structure and other special features the home requires.

This will also include typical wall sections, hurricane support, shear walls and other such features.  They will call out the specific approved parts they want on a property.  They are taking liability for the integrity of the structure.

A good engineer can charge between $1.25 per square foot to $1.75 per square foot.   Some may instead estimate the job based on the number of hours they think it might take.  Funny though, it ends up in this range.  For stock plans needing just to be re-examined because they may have already engineered it once before you might get more favorable pricing.   This is all well worth it!   You do not want your house to fall over do you?
