Clearing - Easy? Not if You Want To Save Money!

You would think this would be easy.   First get your clearing permit filled out and then you clear the lot leveling everything in site.

Thanks to Brad Davis who I encountered on my first build in Florida, I have learned some of the art of preservation.   By preserving the natural vegetation and cleaning it up, nurturing it to grow healthy, there is no need to clear everything just to spend money replanting NON NATIVE plants.

I love, as does everyone else, the natural beauty of the oaks here on 30A.  I like the natural palmettos.  Encountering a naturally occurring Magnolia and giving it new life is awesome.

Look closely at the building envelop and talk to your framers more than anyone else.   Ask them how much space they have to have.   Generally I see good building activity taking place with as little as 5 feet of clearance on three sides.  Yes you are going to have to clear some more than you would like to give adequate staging areas for materials, but thinking and planning can minimize the clear to just that which is essential.

On our Old Seagrove lot we are only dealing with a 92 by 51 foot area.  We had to clear a good bit, but we were fortunate to get a corner lot with a great deal of good plant material we could preserve.

Clear with care.  You will love the natural end result, and your landscape budget will be minimized.

When it comes to clearing use Thos. Stein.
